Weekend Update

Not too much going on this weekend. Watched Nebraska get by with another close win against a team they should have thumped, drank about 10 beers in the process, and watched the Terminator movies. Can never have too much of that shit.

So the tickets for the Megadeth concert went on sale yesterday morning. I was diligently watching for St. Louis dates, turns out the concert’s taking place in Sauget, IL, which is like 3 miles away. Oops. Just hope it doesn’t sell out before I get paid on Friday!

Update Your Site, Dolt!

Ok, I had this really wierd dream last night. Sanya Thomas of Mythic Entertainment called my house in the middle of the night wanting to know why I quit playing Dark Age Of Camelot 5 months ago. Then I checked the Camelot Herald and found my picture on the main page along with like 3 other people in a list of people who had quit the game.

WTF? Wonder if that’s a sign.

So I checked Megadeth’s web site this morning and noticed they posted tour dates. Looks like the closest they’re coming is St. Louis. It takes almost seven hours to get there but you better believe that’s where I’ll be on November 5th. Rattle your goddamn head!

Rebuilding the Beast

Morning update. The sucky part about building a new webpage is if you really get into it you’ll end up spending hours and hours on it, and before you know it it’s past 4am and it barely feels like you’ve made any progress at all. I spent two hours just wrestling with the upload script – I was supposed to be able to just copy all the files over from the Stupor website (which resides in another directory on the same server) but I kept getting internal server errors when I tested the scripts out. First thing was I somehow managed to jack up the shell scripts, so I had to straighten those out. Then I spent some time scouring through code I could barely understand for any possible errors. Keep in mind, I don’t know Perl but I somehow managed to hotwire the script so that it would keep track of things in an XML document for aesthetic purposes – it’s much easier to manipulate existing code than it is to create new code. Then finally after raging about it to a friend I realized I just didn’t have a folder permission set properly. Dammit.

Pretty sterile look, isn’t it? In the three or four times I’ve tried to rebuild this site I just couldn’t come up with anything worth using as a graphics-intensive background, so armed with some techniques I hashed out while building http://www.imwithstupor.com I kind of went back to the basics here. I’m in the process of going through a book on Photoshop CS so if I figure anything out later on down the line I may change things again. But as for right now that sexy banner at the top of the screen is as far as I’m going to go.

First of all the sections aren’t going to be exactly what they were before. The tech section went down completely, although depending on how certain things pan out in the next few days I may put it back up. The Required Viewing section is going to be a consolidation of what used to be the Funny Shit and General Shit sections. Things That Piss Me Off is going to be a section unto its own because I’ve got a huge stack of things to rant about. And Lose Some Weight, Fatass is exactly what it sounds like – I’ll be making notes there every so often about a personal project of mine. You do the math.

I’ve been listening to the Megadeth remasters for the last week now. It’s funny how you can get used to how shitty an album will sound when the band spends most of their recording money on drugs, then one of them wises up later in life and mixes everything they way it should have been mixed. A real eye-opener. The new album comes out September 14, but like any good netizen I’ve already downloaded it and listened to it 60 times. It’s that damn good.

Kick ass.

Marty Friedman is god.

In other news, Rob for ADT tech support? Could be happening soon, very soon … two steps up the ladder (and hence two pay raises) and a ridiculously easy job = teh win!

Man I’m behind schedule on everything. My grandparents spent two weeks here so I made it my primary goal to be either away from the house as much as possible or to be asleep while they’re awake – and for the most part, it paid off. However my plans to have the cabalist in the upper-40s by now were shot to hell, as of this morning I’m barely halfway through 43. There’s probably more than my grandparents to blame for that – I started a necromancer and leveled him to 22, although between the shortcut to 20 that Mythic just put in and the fact that necromancers are very fast levelers that hasn’t taken much time, 20 hours tops.

The new Metallica album is out. Pretty much all that needs to be said is that it’s better than Reload, but in terms of quality their first five albums just kick the shit out of it. They did bring the raw heavy sound they used to have back to the front, and there are several moments in the album where it feels like you’re listening to their older shit – but those moments are few and far between. If they do any more studio albums, I’d rather see them totally revert to the sound they had on Ride the Lightning or Master Of Puppets. Mind-bending solos, long instrumental breaks, and severe ass-kicking. That’s what made them famous and quite honestly, everything they’ve done after Metallica has been sub-par.

As for site updates, I added a couple more funny pictures in and took the cam pic out. Basically the cheap piece of shit I was using quit working.
